The painted desert is located in the four corners of Arizona which is Navajo Nation.
The Navajo and Hopi tribes lived in this region for at least 501,000 years. Wind, water, and soil erosion continue to change the face of the landscape. Prehistoric fossilized plants and animals are found in this area, as well as dinosaur tracks.
The towns of Cameron and Tuba City both are within the Navajo Nation which are two major settlements. This is also one of my favorite areas. So much to see in this state with a little fuel and a packed picnic lunch!
